This role supports our Akron, OH Billing Center which is located in Fairlawn, OH. The preference is for the chosen candidate to go on-site, but will allow for a remote worker.

JOB DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW:

The Payment Posting Supervisor will report to the Patient Accounts Manager and perform direct personnel supervision and management of the employees in the Payment Posting and Processing Department. Management duties are pursued with the orientation that the department personnel deserve fair and honest leadership, effective training and specific performance goals. Operational responsibilities are pursued with the orientation the employer deserves effective management of personnel, cost-efficient planning and appropriate adherence to company policies and management philosophies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages and supervises the Payment Posting Representatives in the functions of posting carrier payments, guarantor payments and applicable adjustments
  • Develops and maintains department policies and procedures
  • Designs and maintains job descriptions, conducts performance evaluations, recommends salary increases and initiates appropriate disciplinary action when required
  • Staffs and maintains adequate levels of personnel in accordance with staffing plan
  • Determines training needs for all positions. Provides planned training agenda for new employees, and cross trains employees to provide adequate back up for vacations, sick days and personnel shortages
  • Establishes, implements and maintains quality control procedures designed to monitor the accuracy of data keyed into IDX
  • Ensures daily balancing of payments and adjustments keyed into IDX
  • Develops and monitors the Payment Posting employees’ daily production goals
  • Develops and coordinates production schedules
  • Communicates any and all issues effecting quality/accuracy and production delays of accounts to Patient Accounts Manager
  • Advises and consults with other management staff about issues in the Patient Accounts department that may affect/relate to their department
  • Conducts weekly staff meetings to inform staff of changes in policies and procedures
  • Monitors ETM PIT reports daily
  • Handles special projects as requested by Management and performs other duties as required

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a payment posting/processing supervisory role
  • Strong organizational and quick-thinking, decision-making skills
  • 3+ years of experience posting medical payments or 3+ years of general medical billing experience on computerized billing system
  • Ability to read remittance advices
  • Proficiency in 10-key number pad and adding machine
  • Must have strong leadership skills and be able to make informed decisions
  • Must have an understanding of the revenue cycle and how reimbursement is affected
  • Mandatory overtime at direction of management

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises Payment Posting Representatives (including Senior-level), Payment Processing Representatives and Cash Clearing Representatives

  • Productivity standards and month-end closing schedules may create a stressful environment

  • High volume, fast-paced environment 

This position may require manual dexterity and/or frequent use of the computer, telephone, 10-key, calculator, office machines (copier, scanner, and fax) and/or the ability to perform repetitive motions and/or meet production standards to comply with the essential functions. Also, may require physical and/or mental stamina to work overtime, additional hours beyond a regular schedule and/or more than five days per week.
