JOB DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW:

Reports to the Patient Accounts Manager and performs direct personnel supervision and management of the employees in the Patient Accounts Department. Broad areas of responsibility include Personnel Management, Data Quality Management, Productivity Management, Communications, and other activities as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages and supervises the Patient Accounts Representatives in the functions of posting carrier payments, guarantor payments and applicable adjustments;
  • Develops and maintains department policies and procedures;
  • Designs and maintains job descriptions, conducts performance evaluations, recommends salary increases, and initiates appropriate disciplinary action when required;
  • Staffs and maintains adequate levels of personnel in accordance with staffing plan;
  • Cross trains employees to provide adequate back up for vacations, sick days, and personnel shortages;
  • Determines training needs for all positions. Provides planned training agenda for new employees;
  • Establishes, implements, and maintains quality control procedures designed to monitor the accuracy of data keyed to IDX;
  • Ensures daily balancing of payments and adjustments keyed to IDX;
  • Develops and monitors the Patient Account employees’ daily production goals;
  • Develops and coordinates production schedules;
  • Communicates any and all issues effecting quality/accuracy of accounts to Patient Accounts Manager;
  • Communicates production delays immediately to Patient Accounts Manager;
  • Advises and consults with other management staff about issues in the Patient Accounts department that may affect/relate to their department;
  • Conducts weekly staff meetings to inform staff or changes in policies and procedures and to provide in-service training;
  • Handles special projects as requested by Management;
  • Performs other duties as required.

Job Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • 1+ year experience in a medical billing setting, with an emphasis on reconciliation and payment posting;
  • Familiarity with the revenue cycle process;
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred;
  • Good team management skills;
  • Good analytical skills;
  • Good knowledge of Excel;
  • Proficiency in working with systems (IDX experience is desirable);
  • Computer literate;
  • Excellent follow-up skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Regular and predictable onsite attendance;
  • High level of interaction and teamwork.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the employees in the Patient Accounts Department

PHYSICAL / ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

This job is performed in a well-lighted and well-vented environment.
Requires constant sitting tolerance.
Extended amount of time spent in front of computer display terminal.
This position may require manual dexterity and/or frequent use of the computer, telephone, 10-key, calculator, office machines (copier, scanner, and fax) and/or the ability to perform repetitive motions and/or meet production standards to comply with the essential functions.
Also, may require physical and/or mental stamina to work overtime, additional hours beyond a regular schedule and/or more than five days per week.
