Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Behavioral Health

JOB DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for providing quality patient care. The LPN coordinates and participates in a variety of supportive patient care activities to assist clinicians in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the urgent care clinics. Performs all clinician orders in a timely and accurate manner adhering to all regulatory requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide respectful, caring support to patients and families, maintaining confidentiality.
  • Create a welcoming environment and act as a patient advocate.
  • Direct patients to exam rooms and gather vital signs, weight, chief complaints, and history.
  • Assist with procedures and ensure proper patient care, including administering medications and performing lab tests.
  • Document all patient interactions in the EMR system.
  • Perform venipuncture, prepare medical supplies, and explain procedures to patients.
  • Execute physician orders and communicate care plans to patients.
  • Address patient concerns and ensure proper follow-up for prescriptions and referrals.
  • Comply with HIPAA, safety guidelines, and infection control policies.
  • Participate in ongoing training, policy development, and maintain cleanliness of the clinic.
  • Attend to patient issues, collaborate with clinic staff, and ensure timely, professional service.
  • Complete other duties as assigned and ensure attendance and punctuality.

QUALIFICATIONS / PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing or certified LPN program
  • 2-3 years of experience working as an LPN in a medical environment preferred
  • Valid registration as an LPN in the respective State
  • Three (3) years of relevant clinical experience preferred
  • Current certification required based on clinic specialty, including but not limited to PALS, ACLS, BLS

  • Competent with IV skills for patient population
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and pharmacological therapies
  • High degree of planning, judgement, problem solving, organizational, verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to determine needs, provide information, instruct, and provide emotional support to patients
  • Ability to perform patient intake and document problems appropriately
  • Ability to identify critical illness and act accordingly based on clinical protocol
  • Ability to address and resolve conflict in a professional manner
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Ability to perform detail-oriented work
  • Ability to work independently yet in conjunction with a team
  • Ability to adapt to a changing and growing atmosphere
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, demanding patient care environment
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and composure when handling challenging clients/stressful situations
  • Promote positive department morale through effective teamwork
  • Bilingual skills a plus
  • Ability to work and travel to multiple locations if needed.

This position may require manual dexterity and/or frequent use of the computer, telephone, 10-key, calculator, office machines (copier, scanner, fax) and/or the ability to perform repetitive motions and/or meet production standards to comply with the essential functions. Also, may require physical and/or mental stamina to work overtime, additional hours beyond a regular schedule and/or more than five days per week.
